Pixel Progress

I chose to work from a Hilda Neily painting to create my pixel chart. I took an impressionism workshop with her over the summer during high school, and I really admire her use of vibrant color, so I thought she would be a cool reference for this project!

Color Study

Artist and Piece: Matisse’s The Dance Colors: Orange and Blue (tints & shades) It was difficult to make the green colors and shades without phthalo green, so I added a small amount along with black for the bottom row. I end up doing portraiture a lot, and I admire her ability to capture expression and movement. I also like how they look realistic/proportionally accurate, but are still stylized in her own mystical way.

The ability she has to capture real moments regarding her thoughts through the dialogue of her subjects is truly fascinating. Through her work she conquers breaking down the barriers that women face daily with showing their true …
