Pixel Art Assignment
Mentor Artist/Work: Pablo Picasso, Les Demoiselles D’Avignon
Pixel Progress
I chose to work from a Hilda Neily painting to create my pixel chart. I took an impressionism workshop with her over the summer during high school, and I really admire her use of vibrant color, so I thought she would be a cool reference for this project!
Plaster Models
Here are some of the plaster models that I got to photograph at the end of last semester.

Color Study
Artist and Piece: Matisse’s The Dance Colors: Orange and Blue (tints & shades) It was difficult to make the green colors and shades without phthalo green, so I added a small amount along with black for the bottom row. Maybe I should have added more yellow to the greens instead of my orange mixture?

Artist Inspiration
I have been following the Instagram accounts of several visual and graphic artists who I am inspired by. I definitely love the loose, impressionistic style that these three artists share. I also love painting still lives, so I find that I am more passionate about paintings of objects with many shadows, highlights, and colors. I …

Artist Inspiration
Immediately, one of my favorite artists, Banksy, is definitely someone that inspires me. I wouldn’t say that his graffiti style is what inspires me and my personal artwork per say, I find that his creativity in his subject matter and his presentation is what I find most compelling about him. For example, the stunt from …
Artiste Inspirato
I follow this account on Instagram called vintage scifi art which introduced me to Wojtek Siudmak. I like the surrealism and scene setting of his work.
Weekly Artist #1: Kristoffer Zetterstrand
Kristoffer Zetterstrand (https://zetterstrand.com/) is a Swedish artist best known for his Minecraft paintings. His early works are an interesting mix of retro and classical, sometimes suspended in mid-air like models set out for display. His use of strong, clear shadows show how flat the pixelated “props” are even in his own fictional space. His process …
Artist Inspiration
I really like @whereissofi (https://www.instagram.com/whereissofi/?hl=en) on Instagram’s watercolor paintings. I end up doing portraiture a lot, and I admire her ability to capture expression and movement. I also like how they look realistic/proportionally accurate, but are still stylized in her own mystical way.
Artist Inspiration
My artist inspiration is Sarah Bahbah. The moment I saw her work I was instantly connected to it. The ability she has to capture real moments regarding her thoughts through the dialogue of her subjects is truly fascinating. Through her work she conquers breaking down the barriers that women face daily with showing their true …
